Canadian Startup Astrus Raises $8M to Automate Analog Chip Design and Strengthen Global AI Infrastructure On Aug 26 2025, Toronto-Waterloo based startup Astrus has raised $8 million USD led by Khosla Ventures with participation from Pradeep Sindhu (founder of Juniper Networks), 1517 Fund, Drive Capital, Alumni Ventures, and others. The announcement came via Kitchener-Waterloo innovation hub Communitech, where Astrus is headquartered. Astrus and the Canadian Story Astrus is tackling one of the hardest problems in chip design: the analog portion of microchips. Unlike digital design, analog layout is still a slow, manual process where engineers place transistors one at a time. Astrus has built a physics aware AI model that can generate thousands of analog layouts in seconds, reducing design cycles from months to weeks. This breakthrough has immediate relevance for high speed SerDes circuits , the components that move data inside the world’s most advanced data centers. Astrus was founded by Brad Moon, a former satellite sensor chip designer, and Zeyi Wang, a reinforcement learning researcher trained by AlphaGo advisor Martin Müller.
